UNIVERSAL FREE BREAKFAST AND LUNCH FOR ALL!!!

Shepherd Public Schools are excited to offer free breakfast and lunch to all students starting this school year thanks to the Michigan Healthy School Meals Program!  Each student will be able to receive one breakfast and one lunch FREE per day.  Money will only be required for Middle/High School students who choose to buy ala carte items.  Parents can make deposits onto their student’s account at

https://shepherd.familyportal.cloud

Even though meals will be provided for free, it is important for ALL families to continue sharing household income information in order for our schools to receive full access to federal and state funding for educational programs that our students are entitled to. Please fill out the Education Benefits form found online at

https://shepherd.familyportal.cloud.  Click apply for benefits and follow the prompts.  You can also grab a paper copy at your school’s office.  Fill them out and return to ensure our school gets these vital funds.

The Board recognizes that good nutrition and regular physical activity affect the health and well-being of the District's students. Furthermore, research concludes that there is a positive correlation between a student's health and well-being and his/her ability to learn.

HEALTHY BEHAVIORS

Moreover, schools can play an important role in the developmental process by which students establish their health and nutrition habits by providing nutritious meals and snacks through the schools' meal programs, by supporting the development of good eating habits, and by promoting increased physical activity both in and out of school. The Board, however, believes this effort to support the students' development of healthy behaviors and habits with regard to eating and exercise cannot be accomplished by the schools alone. It will be necessary for not only the staff, but also parents and the public at large to be involved in a community-wide effort to promote, support, and model such healthy behaviors and habits.
