The 65th annual Shepherd Maple Syrup Festival will be here before we know it and preparations to make it a safe and enjoyable experience for all is an ongoing effort.
As many of you are aware, BOGO Buddy Night (buy one get one free Thursday only) has grown to be an extremely popular and, therefore, overly crowded evening. The uptick in attendance has forced us to make some changes to aid in crowd control and to ensure the safety of all who attend.
In collaboration with Shepherd Maple Syrup Festival, Shepherd Police Department, Shepherd Public Schools and Elliott‘s Amusements LLC, the following changes have been made:
● The BOGO offer, for Thursday, April 25, will be available to Shepherd Public Schools
students only. Must present coupon to redeem offer
● It’s not a requirement that the “Buddy” be a SPS student
● The website will no longer show the BOGO offer on Thursday
● No more than one coupon per student is allowed
● Coupons will be distributed to the following buildings the third week of April
○ Shepherd Elementary - Friday Folders
○ Winn Elementary - Friday Folders
○ Shepherd Middle School - SOAR classrooms
○ Shepherd High School - Office
○ Odyssey Middle/High School - Office

The Shepherd MS Robotics - FTC Team 15399 - Blue Steel competed at Bullock Creek this past Saturday against 35 other teams from around Michigan. They have been building , testing, and coding this robot for the last 8 weeks. They performed well and their robot performed well when everything was working as it should. A few lessons were learned about checking wires, connections, and mechanics after every match and especially after you have had to fix a part on the bot, like a broken winch spool. The team had 2 wins and 3 losses in the 5 matches they competed in.
This was the most complex robot we have made so far since the inception of the MS Robotics Team in 2018. When you have 8 motors and one servo controlling 4 tires, 1 winch, 1 drone launcher, 1 linear slide, a pivot for a claw device, and a claw device, driving can get hard. There is a big challenge getting two drivers to communicate to control all those moving parts at the same time. Driver one controls the drive wheels and the direction of the robots travel, as well as the drone launcher, and the winch mechanism for climbing, while the second driver controls all parts involved in scoring pixels, the pixel claw, the pivot, and the linear slide. I am confident that with more practice driving and controlling the mechanisms on the bot that perform would be much improved.

Shepherd Athletics is very excited to announce that we have has partnered with FinalForms, an online forms and data management service. FinalForms allows you to complete and sign athletic participation forms for your students. The most exciting news is that FinalForms saves data from season-to-season and year-to-year, meaning that you will never need to enter the same information twice! FinalForms also pre-populates information wherever possible, for each of your students, saving you time.
You may review your data at any time to verify it is current. You will be required to sign your forms once per year and after any update.
Click on the Parent Playbook (url below) to get started in FinalForms. If you require any support during the process, scroll to the page bottom and click “Use Support”.
We are asking that ALL parents of athletes use FinalForms.
Please register at:
